Does Lapsang Souchong Have Added Sugar or Flavoring?
Plain Lapsang Souchong can smell sweet without added sugar or flavoring. Honey, fruit and caramel are also tasting comparisons. If you want an unflavored tea, start with the ingredient list and the producer's description, rather than a home test presented as proof.
Check what is actually being sold
Read the full ingredients, product type, producer, batch information and seller's contact details. A deliberately flavored tea is a different product from plain tea; the question is whether its description is clear and accurate. Ask for an explanation when a listing says “pure tea” but the packaging lists additional ingredients.

Four claims that do not establish adulteration
A sweet first infusion does not prove added sugar. Caramel-like aroma does not establish sugar frying. Sticky leaves can reflect moisture or handling and need further investigation. A recommendation to brew at 80–90°C is not evidence of a fake tea: temperature is also a flavor choice.

Nor does a sudden loss of flavor after several quick brews prove flavoring. Leaf dose, leaf size, time and water all change extraction. Those observations can justify questions, but they cannot identify a chemical addition on their own.
Use tasting to assess enjoyment, not to replace testing
Try a small amount using a recorded method. Notice whether the aroma and taste seem coherent and comfortable. If the product causes concern, stop drinking, keep the package and purchase record, and ask the seller or producer for clarification. Do not use an unfamiliar smell as the basis for a public accusation about a named seller.

When more evidence is needed
Reliable confirmation of an undeclared additive may require appropriately scoped laboratory testing and supply-chain records. A photograph, a warm-hand trick or the strength of a third infusion cannot provide that confirmation. Suspected contamination should not be “fixed” by rinsing the leaves.

Choose a seller who answers ingredient questions clearly and offers traceable products. That is more useful than memorizing a supposedly infallible one-cup test.
