Classic forms and clay textures

This video introduces a collection of Yixing clay teapots, showing how different shapes give each pot its own character. Some are soft and rounded, while others have straight lines, broad shoulders or a textured surface. The close-up views and pouring demonstrations make it easy to compare the body, lid, spout and handle. Hanwa has a solid, simple shape, with a wide opening and a flat lid that make the inside easy to reach for cleaning. Xishi has a rounded body, a short spout and a curved handle, giving it a gentle appearance. Shipiao looks more angular, with a three-point base and strong, clean lines. Siting is taller and slimmer, with an elegant neck and flowing curves. Shuiping focuses on balanced proportions, and the video highlights its quick pour and clean stop. Duozhi has a full, rounded body with a firm outline, while the pear-shaped pot feels light and lively. Dezhong takes inspiration from a bell, with an upright body and a neat, balanced profile. Gongchun stands out for its rough, natural-looking texture, which gives the surface an organic character. Hanfeng has a broad, upright form and a bold outline. Together, these designs show how much variety can come from changing a few basic parts of a teapot.

The clay shown in the video

The clay is another important part of the collection. In the video, the pots appear in warm red-brown, darker brown, gray and earthy yellow tones. Some surfaces look smooth and softly polished, while others show visible grains or uneven textures. These differences help define the appearance of each pot, especially when seen beside its shape. However, color alone cannot confirm the clay variety. The English captions describe natural clay but do not identify each pot as Zhu Ni, Zi Ni, Duan Ni or another specific material. For that reason, the collection is best introduced as Yixing clay teapots unless individual material details are available.

If you are choosing a pot, look at both its form and its stated clay material. A beautiful outline catches the eye, but a comfortable handle, a well-fitting lid and a controlled pour also matter in everyday use.
