Chinese Green Tea Brands: What Time-Honored Means
A famous green tea and a time-honored business are different things. West Lake Longjing names a regional tea; a commercial brand identifies a business’s goods. Asking why a regional name does not appear in a company-brand directory therefore starts with the wrong comparison.
Recognition belongs to a named brand and business
China Time-Honored Brand recognition is administered through a formal designation process. The Ministry of Commerce’s February 2024 announcement added 382 brands in its third batch across industries. Recognition is not a sensory score for every packet, and national recognition is different from a provincial or city-level time-honored designation. Use the official directory to check the exact brand, company and record date.
Biluochun and Anhui green-tea examples
The supplied 2024-era roundup discussed Dongshan Tea Factory, Yuluchun, Sanwanchang and Wang Ruiyu, associated with Suzhou tea businesses and Biluochun. Its Anhui examples included Xie Zheng’an of Xieyuda, Laoxiejiacha of Huangshan Guangming Tea, Houkeng for Taiping Houkui, Huiliu for Lu’an Guapian and Anhui Lanhua Tea for Shucheng Lanhua. These are leads for researching actual producers, not a current best-to-worst ranking.
Duyun, Lushan and the Longjing question
Duyun Maojian and Lushan were also included among the source’s brand examples. The same word can function as a tea name and within a registered brand, so identify which meaning a label uses. For Longjing, check a named company’s current record rather than repeating the old article’s blanket claim that no Longjing business has national recognition. A brand’s founding story alone does not explain the result of a formal review.
Check the tea after checking the name
Read producer details, harvest or production information, grade, storage instructions and origin documentation where relevant. Compare price per 100 g rather than gift-box size, and taste a small sample if possible. A historic name is useful background; the condition and flavor of the tea you receive remain the practical test.
