Tea & Teaware Guides
Buying Chinese Teaware Online: An Overseas Buyer’s Checklist

Buying Chinese teaware from overseas becomes easier when you collect specific answers before placing an order. Focus on the item you will receive, its usable dimensions and the seller’s delivery arrangements. A clear description is more useful than an impressive list of unverified claims.
This checklist is practical shopping guidance. It does not state Sandao’s shipping, refund or warranty policies; ask the seller for the terms that apply to your order.

Confirm the product, not just the category
Ask whether photographs show the exact piece or a representative sample. Request views of the interior, base, lid and any markings. If a matching set matters, confirm which pieces are included and whether small differences in colour or decoration are expected.
For clay teapots, separate claims about material, maker and manufacturing method. For ceramics, separate origin, body material and decoration. UNESCO’s account of Jingdezhen and the Met’s Yixing collection are useful cultural references, but neither authenticates an individual modern purchase.
Keep a short order checklist
| Check | Ask for |
|---|---|
| Size | Capacity measurement method, height and overall width |
| Condition | Actual-item images and disclosure of chips, repairs or other issues |
| Use | Care instructions and any appliance restrictions |
| Contents | Exact number of vessels, lids, baskets and accessories |
| Packing | Protection around lids, handles and spouts |
| Delivery | Destination availability, tracking and what the quoted price includes |
| Problems | The procedure and time window for reporting damage or a wrong item |
Ask how fragile parts are protected
A presentation box can look attractive without being the complete shipping package. Ask how the item is cushioned inside the outer parcel and whether the lid can move against the body. For a set, ask how the separate components are kept from striking one another.
Confirm the seller’s current delivery arrangements for your destination. Do not assume a general delivery estimate covers every country, or that all possible charges are included unless the quotation says so.

Inspect before the first brew
Keep the packaging until you have checked the order. Photograph the parcel and visible damage if needed, then inspect the rim, handle, spout and lid in good light. Contact the seller through the agreed channel if something is wrong. Do not brew in a visibly damaged vessel while waiting for a response.
Use Sandao’s Yixing buying questions for material-specific checks, and browse the Yixing collection or Jingdezhen ceramics collection to compare supported descriptions. Save the listing and the seller’s written answers with your order record.
